About the role

We operate a collection of 28 boutique hotels across the UK and Ireland. We have been in business since 2008. We went through a difficult period during the pandemic — we nearly didn\'t make it — and coming out of that experience we are a leaner, more analytically serious business than we were before. We now track our performance closely: RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, channel mix, pace against prior year, and a set of operational metrics that our general managers review weekly. The problem is that we produce those metrics from a combination of our PMS system, a channel manager, and a set of spreadsheets that our revenue manager has been maintaining since 2019. The spreadsheets are impressive, in the way that a very tall house of cards is impressive. We are hiring a contract analytics engineer to replace them with a properly built data layer — Snowflake for the warehouse, dbt for the transformations, and dashboards in Tableau that our general managers and revenue team can use without sending an email to ask for a number. The contract is six months. If the work is excellent and the fit is right, we will discuss a permanent role at the end of it.',

Responsibilities

  • Audit the existing spreadsheet-based reporting layer and document the metrics, formulas, and data sources it encodes
  • Build a Snowflake data warehouse integrating our PMS, channel manager, and OTA data with documented transformation logic in dbt
  • Develop Tableau dashboards for RevPAR, occupancy, channel mix, and pace reporting — designed for daily use by general managers and the revenue team
  • Migrate the revenue manager away from the spreadsheet system with a structured parallel-running period and sign-off process
  • Document all data sources, transformations, and metric definitions so that the permanent team can maintain and extend the system

Requirements

  • 3+ years of analytics engineering or data engineering with ownership of production transformation pipelines
  • SQL at depth — complex window functions, incremental models, and the discipline to write readable dbt models with proper documentation
  • Snowflake for cloud data warehousing: schema design, cost monitoring, and access control for a hospitality analytics environment
  • Tableau for building revenue management and operational dashboards that hotel general managers can navigate independently
  • Python for data pipeline orchestration glue code, API integrations, and lightweight automation
  • Familiarity with hospitality PMS systems (Opera, Mews, or similar) or revenue management data concepts is a strong practical advantage
  • ETL/ELT pipeline design: source system integration, incremental loading, and data quality checks for systems that change without warning

Benefits

  • $400 – $530 per day (or equivalent annualised contract rate)
  • 6-month initial contract with strong intention to discuss permanent conversion
  • Fully remote — hotel operations are on-site, analytics work is not
  • Clear scope and defined deliverables with milestone check-ins
  • Opportunity to convert a genuinely fragile reporting situation into something that will serve a small hospitality business reliably for years
