About the role

We run one of the largest remittance corridors between Europe and West Africa. We process transfers from 19 European countries to 11 African markets. In the last twelve months we moved over €480 million for 1.1 million senders. We are not a startup. We are a regulated money transfer business that has been operating since 2011. We have FCA authorisation in the UK and EMI licences in three EU jurisdictions. We are also not a legacy business: our engineering team is modern, our infrastructure runs on GCP, and we have been investing in our data platform for the last three years. The data engineering problem we are solving is one that most remittance businesses have not solved: connecting the transaction event stream from our payment processing layer with the regulatory reporting requirements from 19 source jurisdictions and 11 destination markets, each with its own rules about what gets reported, when, and in what format. It is a genuinely complex data problem. The engineer we are hiring will own significant parts of our compliance data pipeline and work alongside our regulatory reporting team to make sure the data they use is accurate, timely, and auditable.

Responsibilities

  • Own the compliance data pipeline connecting our payment processing event stream to regulatory reporting outputs for 19 source jurisdictions
  • Build and maintain data quality validation and reconciliation reporting that the regulatory reporting team can rely on for FCA submissions
  • Design the data integration pattern for new market launches — each new corridor adds jurisdiction-specific reporting rules that must be incorporated cleanly
  • Set data engineering standards for the team: pipeline structure, testing requirements, audit trail documentation, and incident response
  • Work with the regulatory reporting and compliance teams to understand reporting requirements and translate them into data pipeline specifications

Requirements

  • 4+ years of data engineering with production experience on financial transaction data or regulatory reporting pipelines
  • Python for pipeline development, data transformation, and compliance automation tooling — clean, version-controlled, tested code
  • Apache Kafka for real-time transaction event stream processing — consumer group management and exactly-once delivery in financial contexts
  • GCP — BigQuery, Dataflow, and Cloud Storage — our primary cloud platform at production depth
  • SQL for compliance data modelling, regulatory report generation, and audit trail queries
  • Apache Spark for batch processing of historical transaction archives and large-scale data reconciliation
  • Experience working with financial compliance data requirements — AML transaction reporting, FCA data submissions, or equivalent — is a significant advantage

Benefits

  • $84,000 – $106,000 base salary
  • Full remote — our data team spans the UK, France, Senegal, and Ghana, and async is how we actually work
  • 28 days annual leave
  • $1,500 annual learning and conference budget
  • Work on data infrastructure that underpins the financial inclusion of 1.1 million senders — the stakes are real and the domain is technically interesting
