Data Science Manager

About the role

We have 7 data scientists, 2 analytics engineers, and no one managing them. They're brilliant individually — each one owns a different product area — but there's no shared roadmap, no consistent methodology, and no one translating their work into language the board understands. You'll be the first data science manager. Your job: bring structure without killing the autonomy that makes this team productive. That means building a shared evaluation framework, aligning individual projects with business goals, running weekly syncs that people actually find useful, and presenting quarterly results to the executive team. We need a player-coach. Someone who can review a model architecture in the morning and present a business case to the CFO in the afternoon. If you've managed data scientists before and you know how to protect their focus while keeping leadership informed, we should talk.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of 7 data scientists and 2 analytics engineers
  • Define a shared roadmap aligned with business objectives
  • Establish consistent methodology and evaluation standards across projects
  • Present data science results and recommendations to executive leadership
  • Balance hands-on technical guidance with people management

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data science with 2+ years managing DS teams
  • Strong technical foundation in Python, SQL, and statistical modeling
  • Experience presenting to executive audiences and translating technical work
  • Familiarity with Snowflake and business intelligence tools
  • Track record of growing and retaining data science talent
