Junior AI Accessibility Audit Tool Developer

About the role

Accessibility compliance testing today is largely manual: designers run through checklists, QA engineers test screen readers, and accessibility consultants review final designs at the end of the sprint — when changes are expensive. We're building a tool that shifts all of that left, automating the detectable parts of WCAG compliance so designers catch issues at the mockup stage. As a junior developer on the tool team, you'll build backend services that analyze design files for contrast ratios, touch target sizes, text scaling behavior, and color blindness compatibility. The computer vision models that detect layout issues are being developed by senior engineers; your job is to build the APIs, storage, and reporting infrastructure that makes their outputs useful to design teams. Our London office has standing desks, good coffee, and a team that cares deeply about building software that actually helps people. You'll be in office 2 days per week — Tuesdays for team syncs, one other day of your choosing.

Responsibilities

  • Build REST APIs that expose accessibility analysis results to design tools
  • Implement storage and versioning for design audit history
  • Create report generation for WCAG compliance summaries
  • Integrate computer vision model outputs into the reporting pipeline
  • Write tests for API endpoints and data validation logic
  • Update documentation as the tool evolves and gains new capabilities

Requirements

  • 1+ year of backend development experience with Python
  • Basic familiarity with REST API design and databases
  • Interest in accessibility standards and inclusive design
  • Comfort working with structured data and JSON
  • Good written communication skills for documentation
