About the role

We build the APIs that connect AI models to business applications. Not the models themselves — the plumbing around them. Authentication, rate limiting, request routing, response caching, usage tracking, and error handling. Boring? Maybe. Critical? Absolutely. When our API layer goes down, 40 clients lose their AI features. As a junior backend developer, you'll help maintain and extend our FastAPI-based API gateway. You'll start with bug fixes and small features — adding new response formats, improving error messages, writing tests — and gradually take on bigger projects like building usage analytics dashboards and implementing new caching strategies. Our codebase is well-structured, our tests are comprehensive, and our senior engineers give thorough code reviews. If you want to learn production backend engineering in an AI context, this is a strong starting point.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and extend FastAPI-based AI API gateway services
  • Write integration and unit tests for API endpoints
  • Build usage tracking and analytics features
  • Fix bugs and improve error handling across the platform
  • Participate in code reviews and on-call rotation (with mentorship)

Requirements

  • Python proficiency with FastAPI or Flask experience
  • Basic SQL skills and understanding of REST API design
  • Familiarity with Docker containers
  • Interest in backend engineering and API design
  • Willingness to learn AWS services on the job
