Junior AI Game Replay Analysis Developer

Leah Nguyen

Contract · Job · Los_Angeles

About the role

Game replay files contain everything that happened during a play session — every player action, every NPC response, every resource change, every decision point. Most game studios store these files and never look at them. We help game studios extract behavioral intelligence from replay data to understand how players actually play versus how designers intended them to play. This is a part-time contract role — 25-30 hours per week — helping build the replay analysis pipeline for a new gaming client. You'll write the parsers that ingest replay files, build the event aggregation logic that turns raw replay streams into analyzable behavioral sequences, and create the summary statistics that game designers use to evaluate whether a level is too hard, too easy, or being played in unexpected ways. Senior engineers will handle the tricky parsing edge cases and the ML behavioral modeling. Your work is the reliable data foundation that makes their analysis possible. If you're interested in game analytics and want hands-on experience building data pipelines that game studios actually use, this is a direct path in.

Responsibilities

  • Build replay file parsers ingesting game event streams into structured data
  • Implement event aggregation logic computing session-level behavioral summaries
  • Create level difficulty metrics derived from replay data: completion rates, retry counts, death locations
  • Build data pipelines delivering replay analytics to the game designer dashboard
  • Write data quality checks ensuring parser accuracy across game version updates
  • Document replay schema and aggregation methodology for the analytics team

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with data pipeline development
  • Interest in gaming, player behavior, or game design
  • Attention to detail in data parsing and validation
  • Reliable async communication for a part-time engagement

Benefits

  • Fully remote contract — 25-30 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule
