Junior AI Incident Timeline Reconstruction Developer

Chase Pham

Full-time · Job · New_York

About the role

When an incident is over, the first question is: what exactly happened, and in what order? Reconstructing a coherent incident timeline from alert logs, deployment events, service metric changes, and human action records across a distributed system is a time-consuming manual process that delays postmortem completion and compounds the fatigue of teams who've already worked through an outage. Our IT operations platform monitors 280 production systems for 40 enterprise clients. Incident timeline reconstruction — automatically assembling the chronological record of events that constituted an incident from across log sources — is the feature that makes postmortems faster and more complete. You'll help build it. As a junior developer, you'll build the event aggregation pipelines that pull timestamped events from alert systems, deployment tools, and metric change detectors, implement the deduplication logic that merges duplicate events from multiple monitoring systems, and create the timeline assembly output that incident commanders and postmortem authors use. Senior engineers define the correlation methodology; you build the reliable multi-source data infrastructure that feeds it.

Responsibilities

  • Build event aggregation pipelines pulling timestamped events from alert, deployment, and metric sources
  • Implement deduplication logic merging duplicate events from multiple monitoring systems
  • Create chronological timeline assembly from aggregated cross-source event records
  • Develop incident boundary detection identifying the start and end of incident event clusters
  • Build timeline export in formats used by postmortem and incident management tools
  • Maintain pipeline as new monitoring integrations and event source types are added

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with data pipelines and time-series event data
  • Interest in DevOps, SRE, or IT operations
  • Attention to timestamp accuracy and event ordering reliability
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with site reliability engineers

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Health and dental insurance
  • $1,500 annual learning budget
  • Mentorship from senior SRE platform engineers
  • 401(k) with match
