Junior AI Load Test Scenario Generation Developer

Lillian Nguyen

Freelance · Job · New_York

About the role

Load tests fail for a predictable reason: the scenarios don't reflect how real users actually use the system. Engineers write load tests based on what they think users do. Those tests pass. Then Black Friday hits with users doing something slightly different at higher volume and the application falls over in a way the load test never predicted. We build AI-powered testing infrastructure. Load test scenario generation — inferring realistic user behavior patterns from production traffic logs and generating synthetic load scenarios that reproduce them — is the feature that makes our load testing genuinely predictive rather than confirmatory. This is a freelance role, 20-25 hours per week, helping build the scenario generation pipeline. You'll implement the traffic log parsers that extract user session patterns, build the synthetic scenario generation logic that creates realistic load profiles from those patterns, and create the validation reports that compare generated load patterns against the production traffic they're meant to simulate. Senior engineers handle the statistical sampling methodology; you build the infrastructure that applies it.

Responsibilities

  • Build traffic log parsers extracting user session patterns from production access logs
  • Implement synthetic load scenario generation creating realistic user behavior sequences
  • Create validation reports comparing generated scenarios against production traffic distributions
  • Build scenario parameterization allowing engineers to configure load intensity and duration
  • Develop scenario library management storing and versioning generated load profiles
  • Write documentation for scenario generation methodology and configuration options

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development experience
  • Basic familiarity with HTTP traffic logs and API concepts
  • Interest in testing infrastructure, developer tooling, or platform engineering
  • Attention to statistical accuracy in load pattern representation
  • Reliable async communication for a freelance engagement

Benefits

  • Fully remote freelance — 20-25 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule
  • Competitive hourly rate
  • Mentorship from senior testing infrastructure engineers
  • Potential to expand scope and hours
