About the role

Our marketplace has 2.8 million active listings. 340,000 of them have product descriptions under 50 words. 180,000 have no category assignment. 95,000 have images that are blurry, off-center, or show the wrong product. Each of these quality issues reduces the listing's chance of appearing in search results and converting when it does — and each one costs our sellers revenue. As a junior catalog quality engineer, you'll build and maintain the automated quality scoring system that evaluates listings across these dimensions and flags low-quality items for seller action. The machine learning models that evaluate image quality and description completeness are partially built; your job is to complete the scoring pipeline, build the notification system that sends sellers actionable feedback, and create the analytics that show which quality dimensions have the most impact on listing performance. This is an entry-level role with real product impact. You'll work with a senior engineer and a product manager who'll help you understand what matters and why. Responsibilities

  • Complete the listing quality scoring pipeline across image, description, and category dimensions
  • Build the seller notification system delivering actionable quality improvement feedback
  • Create analytics dashboards tracking quality distribution and improvement rates
  • Implement quality score integration into the search ranking input pipeline
  • Write tests for scoring logic and monitor for quality drift
  • Analyze correlation between quality scores and listing performance metrics

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with data pipelines and API development
  • Interest in marketplace products, e-commerce, or content quality
  • Attention to detail in data validation logic
  • Good communication skills for working with product managers
