Junior AI On-Device Telemetry Pipeline Developer

About the role

Our wearable devices generate inference logs, power consumption metrics, and model accuracy signals continuously — but right now that data sits on devices until the user syncs via Bluetooth, and batch uploads make it impossible to detect model degradation or hardware failures in real time. We need the telemetry pipeline that gets device signals to our analytics platform within 15 minutes of generation. This is a 6-month contract focused on building the device-to-cloud telemetry pipeline. You'll work on the cloud side: the ingestion endpoints that receive telemetry from device firmware, the validation and normalization layer that produces clean records, the storage schema optimized for per-device and aggregate analytics, and the basic alerting that flags anomalous device behavior. The firmware team handles the device side; you handle everything from the API endpoint onward. This is an excellent early-career role for someone who wants to get real experience with IoT data pipelines in a production environment. The senior ML engineer who defines the analytics requirements will guide your technical work throughout the engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Build cloud-side ingestion endpoints receiving telemetry from device firmware
  • Implement validation and normalization for device metrics data
  • Design storage schema for per-device and fleet-level telemetry analytics
  • Set up basic alerting for anomalous device behavior patterns
  • Write data quality checks validating telemetry completeness and consistency
  • Document API contracts for firmware team integration

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development with basic API and data pipeline experience
  • Familiarity with cloud storage services like AWS S3 or similar
  • Basic SQL for data querying and schema design
  • Interest in IoT, embedded systems, or device analytics
  • Reliable and communicative in an async remote environment
