Junior AI Sepsis Early Warning Data Analyst

About the role

Our mission is to catch patient deterioration hours earlier than it is caught today. Bolvex Solutions builds early-warning models used in 14 partner hospitals, and sepsis is the condition where every hour matters most. This junior role sits inside our clinical analytics team in Chicago (three days a week in the office near the Medical District, two at home). You will clean vitals and lab data, check whether alerts fired when they should have, and help our clinicians understand why a model flagged a patient. It is a role for someone who wants to learn how healthcare data really behaves: missing timestamps, units that change between hospitals, and outcomes that are hard to define. You will be mentored by a senior biostatistician and a practicing ICU nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and validate EHR extracts (vitals, labs, medication orders) for model retraining
  • Run weekly alert audits comparing model triggers against confirmed sepsis cases
  • You'll spend a lot of time in SQL and pandas notebooks, documenting every data quirk you find
  • Present findings to clinicians in plain language during monthly review sessions

Requirements

  • Degree in statistics, public health, data science or a related quantitative field
  • Comfortable with SQL joins, Python and basic hypothesis testing
  • Curiosity about clinical workflows and patient safety
  • Internship or academic project with real-world healthcare or survey data is a plus
