Junior AI User Research Synthesis Automation Developer

About the role

User research produces interviews, usability sessions, survey responses, and support tickets — qualitative data that contains genuine insight about what users find difficult, what they love, and what they wish the product did differently. The problem is volume: a design team running 20 user interviews per quarter generates 30-40 hours of transcripts that need to be synthesized into actionable themes, patterns, and recommendations. The synthesis work itself often takes longer than running the research. We build AI-assisted design tools used by 280 product teams. User research synthesis automation is a new capability we're building: ingesting interview transcripts, usability session recordings, and survey open-ends, running NLP-based theme extraction and pattern clustering, and generating synthesis reports that give product and design teams the insight distillation without the manual analysis labor. This is a 6-month contract. As a junior developer, you'll build the document processing pipelines and synthesis output formatting components. Senior engineers handle the NLP model integration; you build the ingestion pipeline for transcripts and survey data, the storage and retrieval layer, and the report generation templates that format synthesis results for design team consumption.

Responsibilities

  • Build transcript and survey response ingestion pipeline handling multiple input formats
  • Implement storage and retrieval layer for research document libraries with project organization
  • Create synthesis report generation formatting theme clusters and pattern summaries for design team use
  • Develop pipeline scheduling for batch synthesis across accumulated research document collections
  • Build research session tagging supporting product area, participant segment, and research question organization
  • Maintain pipeline as new document formats and synthesis output types are added

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with NLP APIs or text processing
  • Interest in product design, user research, or developer productivity tools
  • Attention to output formatting and design team usability
  • Reliable async communication for a contract engagement
