About the role

We have a problem most companies would love to have: too much proprietary training data and not enough people who know how to use it. Our clients in the insurance sector have decades of claims documentation, and they want custom LLMs that understand their specific terminology, workflows, and decision logic. We're looking for a freelance fine-tuning specialist to run 3-4 client engagements over the next 6 months. Each engagement follows the same playbook: audit the client's data, prepare training datasets, fine-tune an open-source base model (Llama, Mistral, etc.), evaluate against client-defined benchmarks, and deliver a deployment-ready model. You'll work with our project manager for client coordination, but the technical work is yours. If you have a portfolio of successful fine-tuning projects and you enjoy the puzzle of making general models domain-specific, this is steady, well-scoped freelance work.

Responsibilities

  • Audit client data and design fine-tuning strategies per engagement
  • Prepare and clean training datasets from proprietary insurance documents
  • Fine-tune open-source LLMs using Hugging Face and PyTorch
  • Evaluate model quality against client-specific benchmarks
  • Deliver deployment-ready models with documentation

Requirements

  • 3+ years working with LLMs, 1+ year doing fine-tuning
  • Proven portfolio of fine-tuning projects with measurable results
  • Hands-on Hugging Face and PyTorch experience
  • Familiarity with LoRA, QLoRA, and parameter-efficient fine-tuning
  • Ability to manage your own schedule and deliver on deadlines
