About the role

We operate electricity distribution infrastructure across Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. Forecasting energy demand accurately 24–72 hours ahead is critical for our grid balancing operations. Our current forecasting model is 6 years old. It significantly underperforms during heatwaves, public holidays and rapid EV adoption spikes. We need an ML engineer to build an improved short-term load forecasting system — multi-horizon (1h, 6h, 24h, 72h), incorporating weather data, calendar effects and smart meter aggregates where available. This is real operational infrastructure. Models that fail cost us money in imbalance penalties and, in extreme cases, affect grid stability.
