ML Engineer — News Recommendation System

Digital news platform, 6M monthly active readers. Our recommendation system is collaborative filtering built in 2020. It pushes readers toward the same topics in an echo chamber and it's hurting session depth. We need an ML engineer to lead a redesign — a two-tower model or transformer-based approach that balances personalisation with editorial diversity goals. The editorial team cares a lot about this — they don't want AI that only shows people what they already like. We have 3 years of user engagement data, full content metadata, and a solid A/B testing framework in place.
