About the role

We run a compliance and training company for mid-sized businesses across financial services and healthcare. We have approximately 3,200 policy documents, training guides, regulatory Q&A PDFs, and procedure manuals sitting in a shared drive that no one can effectively search. Our staff spend an average of 45 minutes per day searching for answers that should take 90 seconds. We need a RAG system built on this corpus — document ingestion, chunking strategy, vector storage, retrieval pipeline, and a simple chat interface that answers employee questions in plain language with cited source passages. We're not asking for anything cutting-edge. We need something solid, well-documented, and maintainable by our three-person internal tech team once it's handed over. Budget is fixed-price. Timeline is six to eight weeks. Handover documentation is a hard deliverable, not optional.

Requirements

Technical stack needed for this mission.

  • Production experience building and deploying RAG systems
  • Strong Python and LangChain or LlamaIndex for pipeline orchestration
  • Experience selecting and tuning chunking strategies for long structured documents
  • OpenAI API or equivalent for generation — we're not fine-tuning, just prompting well
  • Docker for a clean, reproducible deployment the internal team can run and maintain
  • Ability to write handover documentation a non-ML developer can understand and use
