RAG Systems Engineer

About the role

You'll be the second RAG specialist on a small team of six, reporting directly to our head of engineering. What we have already: a working fraud detection platform with strong classical ML models. What's missing: retrieval-augmented tooling that lets our investigators query case history and regulatory guidance in plain language instead of digging through static reports. Your role is to build that system from the ground up over the course of this contract.

Responsibilities

  • Build a retrieval-augmented system over internal case and policy documents
  • Design chunking and indexing strategies for investigator queries
  • Package the system for deployment using Docker
  • Evaluate retrieval quality against real investigator questions
  • Document the architecture for the team to maintain after handoff

Requirements

  • 3+ years building production NLP or RAG systems
  • Hands-on experience with LangChain or LlamaIndex
  • Strong Python skills
  • Experience with Docker-based deployment
  • Comfortable working independently on a defined contract scope
