Senior AI Data Lineage Inference Engineer

About the role

You'll join a platform team of eight engineers and one designer who own our data catalog product end to end. The catalog already ingests metadata from warehouses, BI tools and orchestrators. Where lineage is explicit, we capture it well. The gap is everything else: SQL buried in notebooks, ad-hoc scripts, spreadsheets that feed dashboards. We want to infer lineage there, from query logs and code, and show it with an honest confidence level. You'll lead the technical design for lineage inference, combining SQL parsing, code analysis and LLM-assisted interpretation where rules run out.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture for inferred lineage across notebooks, scripts and query logs
  • Combine deterministic SQL parsing with LLM-based fallback for complex code
  • Define confidence scoring so users know which edges to trust
  • Mentor engineers and review designs across the catalog team

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building data platform or metadata products
  • Deep knowledge of SQL dialects and query parsing
  • Hands-on with Spark and Databricks environments
  • Experience applying LLMs to code understanding tasks
