Senior AI Recommendation Experimentation Scientist

About the role

Our recommendation models get better every quarter. Our ability to prove it does not. Talmion Data powers personalization for news publishers and streaming apps, and our A/B tests keep running into the usual problems: network effects, novelty bias, metrics that move in opposite directions. We need a senior scientist to own experimentation methodology for recommendations. You'll introduce variance reduction, interleaving and long-term holdouts where they make sense, build tooling on Databricks so other scientists can use them, and act as the person who says no when a result looks too good. Your work will decide which models reach 40 million users.

Responsibilities

  • Own experimentation methodology for all recommendation launches
  • Introduce interleaving, CUPED and long-term holdouts with clear guidance on when to use each
  • Build reusable analysis tooling on Databricks for the wider data science group
  • Review experiment readouts and coach scientists on interpretation

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in causal inference and online experimentation
  • Experience with recommender systems or ranking in a consumer product
  • Fluent in Python or R, with Spark experience at scale
  • Confident challenging conclusions with senior stakeholders
