Senior AI Speech Translation Latency Engineer

About the role

We publish internally every quarter and encourage conference submissions, but this role is measured by one number: how quickly a translated voice reaches the listener. Nelvix Labs builds real-time speech-to-speech translation for live events and customer calls. Today our end-to-end delay is about 2.8 seconds; we need it under one second without losing accuracy. You'll research and implement streaming ASR, simultaneous translation policies and incremental synthesis, then get them running on our inference cluster. This role is on-site at our San Francisco lab, five days a week, because the work depends on tight loops with our audio hardware and evaluation booth.

Responsibilities

  • Research and implement simultaneous translation policies (wait-k, adaptive read/write)
  • Optimize streaming ASR and TTS components for low first-token latency
  • Read recent papers, reproduce promising results and report findings to the team
  • Ship improvements into production and own latency and quality dashboards

Requirements

  • Deep experience in speech recognition, machine translation or speech synthesis
  • Publications or open-source work in speech or sequence modeling are a strong plus
  • Strong PyTorch skills and experience optimizing models for real-time inference
  • Willing to work on-site in San Francisco five days per week
