About the role

We are Turkey's second-largest e-commerce marketplace. We have 48 million registered users, 380,000 active merchants, and we process approximately 1.2 million orders on a typical day — significantly more during campaigns like Hepsiburada's discount periods or Trendyol campaigns. Our data infrastructure handles one of the largest consumer transaction workloads in the EMEA region outside the Tier 1 Western platforms. The data engineering team is responsible for the pipelines that move, transform, and serve this data — from real-time event streams that feed our recommendation and fraud systems to the analytical warehouse that supports 200 internal users in product, finance, and operations. We are a growing team and we are hiring senior data engineers who want to work on data problems at real scale. If you have worked on data infrastructure that processes tens of millions of events per day and you want to work on infrastructure that processes ten times that, this is the right size of problem. The role is remote-friendly within Turkey and compatible European time zones.

Responsibilities

Own the real-time event ingestion pipeline from our app and web properties through to our stream processing and analytical systems
Design and build the data architecture for new marketplace capabilities — new merchant verticals, new payment methods, and international expansion require clean data integration from the start
Set engineering standards for the data team: pipeline structure, testing, monitoring, and incident response protocols
Lead the performance optimisation of our most business-critical pipelines — the ones where latency and correctness directly affect recommendation quality and fraud detection accuracy
Mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to the technical interviews and hiring decisions as the team grows

Requirements

7+ years of data engineering with production experience on high-volume, high-velocity e-commerce or consumer internet data
Kafka for real-time event streaming at the scale of a major consumer marketplace — you understand exactly-once semantics, consumer group design, and the operational challenges of Kafka at volume
Apache Spark for large-scale batch processing of transaction, behavioural, and merchant data
Python for pipeline development, data transformation, and tooling at a senior level — your code sets the standard for the team
SQL for the data warehouse layer — complex transformations, query optimisation, and the analytical models that business users depend on
GCP — BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub — our primary cloud platform for both streaming and batch workloads
Experience with e-commerce data models: order lifecycle, merchant catalogue, inventory, and the specific data quality challenges of marketplace platforms with hundreds of thousands of sellers
