About the role

We have 120 production prompts powering a B2B document intelligence platform. Some are brilliant. Some are held together with duct tape and few-shot examples that stopped working after the last model update. Your job: build the engineering discipline around prompt development that turns this into a reliable, measurable, versionable system. You'll define our prompt architecture standards, build evaluation frameworks, implement prompt versioning and A/B testing, and lead the migration from ad-hoc prompt writing to a systematic prompt engineering practice. You'll also mentor 3 mid-level engineers who currently write prompts as part of their feature work. This is a senior IC role with significant influence on how the entire engineering team works with LLMs. If you've been the person who brings order to prompt chaos, you know exactly what this role entails.

Responsibilities

  • Define prompt architecture standards and best practices for the engineering team
  • Build evaluation and regression testing frameworks for production prompts
  • Implement prompt versioning, A/B testing, and performance tracking systems
  • Lead migration from ad-hoc to systematic prompt engineering practices
  • Mentor engineers on prompt design, evaluation, and optimization

Requirements

  • 4+ years working with LLMs in production environments
  • Deep expertise in prompt engineering techniques and patterns
  • Experience with OpenAI API, LangChain, and RAG architectures
  • Strong analytical skills — you measure prompt performance quantitatively
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and establish team practices
