AI Adaptive Audio Spatialization Engineer

About the role

Spatial audio makes music feel like you're standing in the recording studio — instruments placed around you in 3D space, with realistic room acoustics and head-tracking response. But creating spatial mixes manually takes an audio engineer 20 hours per album. Our adaptive spatialization system generates spatial audio from stereo sources using learned room acoustics and instrument separation. The technical challenge is source separation quality and spatial plausibility. Separating a stereo mix into individual stems (vocals, drums, bass, guitars, keys) introduces artifacts that become painfully obvious when each stem is placed in 3D space. You'll improve the separation models, design the spatial placement algorithms that create convincing 3D scenes, and build the head-tracking adaptation that maintains the illusion as the listener moves. The spatial audio team is four engineers. You'll be the senior ML engineer who drives separation quality and spatial rendering research, working alongside an audio engineer who evaluates output on professional monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

  • Improve source separation quality for stereo-to-spatial conversion
  • Design spatial placement algorithms creating convincing 3D audio scenes
  • Build head-tracking adaptation for immersive listening experiences
  • Evaluate spatial audio quality using both metrics and listening tests
  • Optimize rendering pipeline for real-time playback on consumer devices
  • Research new approaches to learned room acoustics and HRTF personalization

Requirements

  • 6+ years in audio ML or spatial audio with production systems
  • Deep understanding of source separation, HRTF, and room acoustics
  • Strong PyTorch skills for audio model development
  • Experience with binaural rendering and ambisonics
  • Critical listening skills for evaluating spatial audio quality
