About the role

Our analytics platform serves 280 mid-market companies whose data teams are a single analyst or, frequently, zero. These companies have BI dashboards, but the dashboards answer yesterday's questions. When the CEO wants to know why Q3 revenue missed by 8% or which customer segment is churning faster this month, there's nobody to run the ad-hoc analysis. We're building the AI analyst layer: a system that answers business questions in natural language by querying the right data, running the right analysis, generating the right visualization, and narrating the findings in plain English. You'll build the backend: the query generation from natural language, the automated insight detection that surfaces anomalies before anyone asks, and the narrative generation that explains findings to non-technical executives. This is a mid-level role with clear senior track. The product is a hard problem — NL-to-SQL is solved for simple queries, but business analysis involves multi-step reasoning, domain-specific context, and graceful failure modes when data is missing or the question can't be answered reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Build NL-to-SQL query generation with multi-step business reasoning support
  • Implement automated insight detection for anomalies in client business metrics
  • Develop narrative generation that explains data findings to non-technical audiences
  • Create graceful fallback logic for unanswerable questions and missing data
  • Build context injection from client business ontologies into query generation
  • Monitor query accuracy against business analyst gold standard answers

Requirements

  • 3+ years building analytics or BI systems with NLP or LLM components
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of business metrics and reporting patterns
  • Experience with NL-to-SQL or text-to-query systems
  • Python proficiency for backend service development
  • Ability to communicate data findings design decisions to non-technical stakeholders
