About the role

As a fully async team spread across nine time zones, we believe great engineers can do their best work without ever syncing up live, and this engagement is a good example: fully scoped, fully remote, and measured by outcomes rather than hours online. Call center customers hang up when the quoted wait time turns out to be wrong, and that erodes trust in every automated system downstream of it. We need someone to build a more accurate wait-time prediction model that accounts for real-time queue dynamics, not just a static average. This is a freelance engagement to design, build, and hand off a production-ready prediction model, with clear documentation so our internal team can maintain it after the engagement ends.

Responsibilities

  • Build a queue wait-time prediction model using real-time and historical call data
  • Validate prediction accuracy against actual observed wait times
  • Document the modeling approach for internal handoff
  • Recommend monitoring practices for post-engagement maintenance

Requirements

  • 6+ years in applied statistics or predictive modeling
  • Strong scikit-learn and SQL experience
  • Experience with queueing or time-series prediction problems
  • Comfortable working independently on a freelance basis with async communication
