AI Conversational Search Engineer

About the role

Traditional search returns a list of links. Our conversational search returns an answer — synthesized from internal knowledge bases, with citations, follow-up suggestions, and the confidence to say 'I don't know' when the evidence is thin. We serve enterprise teams who need reliable answers from their own documentation, not internet noise. You'll build the retrieval and generation pipeline: hybrid search combining dense and sparse retrieval, dynamic chunk ranking, multi-turn conversation management, and the answer generation layer that synthesizes information from multiple sources while tracking provenance for every claim. Our biggest technical challenge is answer quality at the boundaries — when a question partially matches several documents but none of them fully answers it. You'll develop strategies for these edge cases: partial answer assembly, confidence calibration, and graceful degradation when evidence is insufficient.

Responsibilities

  • Build hybrid retrieval pipelines combining dense and sparse search methods
  • Design multi-turn conversation management for follow-up queries
  • Implement answer generation with source provenance tracking
  • Develop confidence calibration for edge cases with partial evidence
  • Optimize retrieval quality metrics and end-to-end answer accuracy

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP or information retrieval
  • Hands-on RAG and LangChain experience at production scale
  • Understanding of embedding models and retrieval ranking
  • Strong Python skills with FastAPI for service development
  • Experience evaluating search and QA system quality
