About the role

We help data platform teams stop relying on spreadsheets to decide who's on call this week. Today rotations get assigned manually, and the same two engineers always seem to get the worst weeks. This role builds the balancer that assigns on-call rotations based on past incident load, time zone, and vacation calendars, so fairness stops being a guessing game. We don't care where you work from. We care about output, clear communication, and getting the edge cases right.

Responsibilities

  • Build a fairness-aware on-call rotation scheduling system
  • Design metrics that quantify past incident load per engineer
  • Partner with platform teams to validate scheduling constraints

Requirements

  • 5+ years building internal engineering tools
  • Experience with scheduling or constraint-based optimization
  • Comfortable owning a system engineers rely on weekly
