About the role

Our mission is to make government data accessible and trustworthy for journalists, researchers, and civic organizations. Glyph Systems builds open data tools used by 200+ newsrooms and policy research groups, and election data integrity is one of our highest-stakes tracks. Anomalies in election data — registration rolls, turnout records, mail ballot returns — can indicate data entry errors, legitimate trends, or things that deserve closer scrutiny. In this junior analyst role, you'll build anomaly detection models on publicly available election and voter registration datasets, develop monitoring dashboards used by our journalist partners, and help maintain the data pipelines that keep our election data feeds current and clean. You'll work in a team that takes epistemic caution seriously — your outputs will inform but not conclude. This is a mission-driven role for someone who believes data transparency strengthens democracy. Prior exposure to election data or public records is a bonus, but not required. What matters is analytical rigor and clear thinking under ambiguity.

Responsibilities

  • Build anomaly detection models on voter registration and election results datasets
  • Maintain Tableau dashboards used by journalist and researcher partners
  • Own data pipeline updates for election data feeds from county and state sources
  • Document flagged anomalies with clear caveats and alternative explanations
  • Participate in partner training sessions on responsible use of election data tools

Requirements

  • 1+ year experience in data analysis
  • Solid Python and SQL skills
  • Strong statistical reasoning and comfort with ambiguous data
  • Interest in civic technology, journalism, or democratic data infrastructure
  • Tableau or similar BI tool experience is a plus
