AI Fleet Routing Engineer

About the role

Delivery fleet routing is a traveling salesman problem with 50 trucks, 800 daily stops, time windows, vehicle capacity limits, driver hour regulations, and traffic conditions that change every 15 minutes. Optimal routing saves our clients 15-20% on fuel costs and lets them serve more customers with the same fleet size. You'll improve the routing optimization engine: incorporating real-time traffic predictions, dynamic re-routing when deliveries fail or new orders arrive mid-route, and the simulation framework that evaluates routing quality by replaying historical delivery days and comparing actual vs. optimized performance. Routing optimization is computationally hard — you can't brute-force the solution space. You'll use a combination of metaheuristics, constraint programming, and ML-guided search to find routes that are provably close to optimal within the time budget that real-time operations demand.

Responsibilities

  • Improve fleet routing optimization with real-time traffic prediction integration
  • Build dynamic re-routing for mid-day delivery failures and new order insertion
  • Design simulation frameworks replaying historical days for routing quality evaluation
  • Implement metaheuristic and constraint programming approaches for route optimization
  • Monitor routing quality metrics and fuel cost savings across client fleets

Requirements

  • 3+ years in operations research, logistics, or combinatorial optimization
  • Strong Python skills for optimization algorithm implementation
  • Experience with vehicle routing problems and constraint programming
  • SQL proficiency for logistics data analysis
  • Understanding of real-world delivery operations and constraints
