AI Human-in-the-Loop Workflow Designer

About the role

Full automation isn't always the goal. For high-stakes decisions — medical diagnoses, legal classifications, content moderation at scale — the right answer is a human-in-the-loop system where AI handles the easy cases automatically and routes difficult cases to human reviewers efficiently. Designing these handoffs is harder than it sounds: route too aggressively and humans review everything, defeating the purpose; route too conservatively and mistakes slip through. You'll build the routing and workflow framework that powers human-in-the-loop systems across our client deployments. That means confidence-based routing calibrated to each task's error tolerance, reviewer queue management that prioritizes cases by urgency and reviewer expertise, and feedback loops that use reviewer decisions to improve model confidence calibration over time. The AI systems team is six engineers. You'll be the senior engineer who defines how intelligent routing should work, working with domain experts from healthcare, legal, and content moderation who have deep intuitions about which cases require human judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Design confidence-based routing calibrated to each task's error tolerance
  • Build reviewer queue management prioritizing by urgency and expertise
  • Implement feedback loops using reviewer decisions to improve routing
  • Create workflow analytics measuring automation rate and error escape rate
  • Support deployment across diverse domains: medical, legal, content moderation
  • Define the framework architecture used by all HITL deployments

Requirements

  • 5+ years in ML engineering with human-in-the-loop or active learning experience
  • Deep understanding of confidence calibration and uncertainty estimation
  • Experience designing workflow systems for operational teams
  • Strong Python and system design skills
  • Ability to work across multiple domain verticals simultaneously
