AI Merchant Risk Scoring Engineer

About the role

We just closed our Series A and are scaling fast. We need a senior engineer who can take our merchant onboarding risk model from a manual review process to something that scores every new merchant application automatically. Gradrix Works already runs anti-money laundering and sanctions screening for mid-size banks, and merchant risk scoring is the next product line our compliance clients are asking for by name. You'll build the model that flags high-risk merchant applications for manual review while letting low-risk ones through automatically. Our clients include Fortune 500 companies in financial services, so reliability and auditability are non-negotiable — every score needs a paper trail a regulator could follow.

Responsibilities

  • Design and train merchant risk scoring models from onboarding application data
  • Build Spark pipelines to process merchant transaction history at scale
  • Create audit trails documenting every scoring decision for regulatory review
  • Partner with compliance teams to define risk thresholds and escalation rules
  • Deploy and monitor models in AWS production environments

Requirements

  • Experience building risk or fraud scoring models in a regulated industry
  • Strong SQL and Spark skills for large-scale transaction data
  • Familiarity with AML or KYC concepts a strong plus
  • AWS production deployment experience
  • Comfort documenting models for compliance audits
