AI Municipal Water Usage Anomaly Detector

Samuel Pham

Full-time · Job · Denver

About the role

We believe civic infrastructure deserves the same quality of tooling as private industry. Municipal water utilities we work with still detect leaks and billing anomalies mostly through resident complaints, which means problems often go unnoticed for months. This role builds an anomaly detection system on top of smart meter data that flags unusual consumption patterns early, whether that's a leak, meter tampering, or billing error, and routes flagged accounts to utility staff for review.

Responsibilities

  • Build anomaly detection models on municipal smart meter consumption data
  • Classify flagged anomalies by likely cause: leak, tampering, or billing error
  • Design a review queue for utility staff to triage flagged accounts
  • Work with municipal partners to validate detection accuracy in the field

Requirements

  • 5+ years building anomaly detection or time-series models in production
  • Strong Python, SQL, and ETL pipeline experience
  • Comfortable working with public sector data and partners
  • Experience communicating technical findings to non-technical stakeholders

Benefits

  • Fully remote position
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Mission-driven team culture
  • Public sector partnership travel budget
  • 401k matching
