AI Packaging Line Vision Engineer

About the role

PyTorch and a high-speed line scan camera are the core of what we build here. If you know how to make vision models work reliably under changing light, at 1,200 products per minute, we should talk. We already have solid defect detection for metal and circuit boards. Packaging lines are our next vertical — and they're messier. Foil wrinkles, off-center labels, crushed corners: none of these trigger a hard defect threshold, but they all matter to our FMCG clients. You'd join a computer vision team of 7 and own the packaging inspection pipeline from data collection to edge deployment. This is a hybrid role: you'll spend 2 days a week at our Chicago facility running validation tests on actual production hardware. The other 3 days are fully remote model development.

Responsibilities

  • Build and iterate on CV models for packaging defect detection across 3 product lines
  • Own the data labeling pipeline for packaging imagery in partnership with the annotation team
  • Deploy and benchmark models on Jetson edge hardware at line speeds
  • Tune inference latency to meet sub-50ms SLA requirements
  • Document failure modes and edge cases for QA and line supervisors

Requirements

  • 3+ years of computer vision engineering with production deployments
  • Strong Python and PyTorch skills; edge inference experience a plus
  • Experience with edge inference (ONNX, TensorRT a plus)
  • Ability to translate physical defect criteria into ML-detectable signals
  • Hybrid availability near Chicago is required
