AI Perishable Goods Route Optimization Engineer

Sophia Ferreira

Contract · Job · Denver

About the role

Our mission is to keep fresh produce moving through the supply chain without spoiling before it reaches a shelf. This role is a six-month engagement focused on one specific problem: our current route planner treats a truck of strawberries the same as a truck of canned goods, and that's costing our retail partners real spoilage losses. You'll rebuild the routing logic so it weighs shelf life and cold-chain risk alongside distance and traffic. We publish internally and encourage conference submissions, so if your approach turns into something worth sharing, we'll support that too.

Responsibilities

  • Rebuild route scoring to account for shelf life and spoilage risk
  • Backtest new routing logic against a year of historical delivery data
  • Document findings for the wider data science team

Requirements

  • 6+ years in operations research or logistics data science
  • Strong spark and databricks experience at scale
  • Comfortable working independently on a fixed-term contract

Benefits

  • Fully remote engagement
  • Competitive contract rate
  • Possibility of extension into a full-time role
