About the role

A single unplanned machine failure on an automotive assembly line costs $22,000 per minute of downtime. Our predictive maintenance system fuses data from vibration sensors, thermal cameras, acoustic monitors, and power meters to predict failures 48-72 hours before they happen — long enough to schedule maintenance during planned downtime. The sensor fusion challenge is harder than it sounds. Each sensor type has different sampling rates, noise profiles, and failure signatures. A bearing degradation shows up as a frequency shift in vibration data but a temperature gradient in thermal data, and neither signal alone is reliable enough. You'll build the fusion models that combine these heterogeneous signals into unified health scores with calibrated confidence intervals. You'll work 3 days per week in our San Jose lab where we have sensor test rigs and access to client factory data feeds. The remaining 2 days are remote. The predictive maintenance team is six engineers across hardware, ML, and cloud — you'll own the signal processing and fusion layers.

Responsibilities

  • Build multi-sensor fusion models for equipment health prediction
  • Design signal processing pipelines for vibration, thermal, acoustic, and power data
  • Calibrate prediction confidence intervals for maintenance scheduling decisions
  • Validate models against real failure events from factory deployments
  • Handle temporal alignment of heterogeneous sensor streams
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers on sensor configuration optimization

Requirements

  • 5+ years in signal processing or time series ML with sensor data
  • Experience fusing data from multiple heterogeneous sensor types
  • Strong understanding of frequency-domain analysis and feature engineering
  • Python and PyTorch skills for model development
  • Comfort with lab environments and physical sensor hardware

Benefits

  • Hybrid — 3 days San Jose lab, 2 days remote
  • Competitive salary plus equity
  • Health, dental, and vision from day one
  • $3,000 annual conference budget
  • Patent bonus program
