AI Research Funding Trend Analyst

About the role

You'll be the second analyst on a small research intelligence team, working directly with our head of product on a question researchers ask us constantly: where is funding actually heading next year, not just this year. Our existing grant matching tool helps researchers find funding they qualify for today, but it doesn't help them anticipate which fields are about to see funding growth or contraction. That gap means researchers plan grant applications reactively instead of strategically. You'll build the trend analysis behind a new forecasting feature, working from historical funding award data across major research funding bodies, as a six-month contract with potential to extend.

Responsibilities

  • Build trend analysis models from historical research funding award data
  • Identify emerging and contracting funding areas across research fields
  • Partner with the head of product on translating trends into a forecasting feature
  • Clean and structure funding data from multiple public funding body sources
  • Present findings in regular syncs with the research intelligence team

Requirements

  • Python, SQL, and pandas experience with time-series or trend data
  • Statistics background for trend analysis and forecasting
  • Interest in academic research funding landscapes
  • Available for a six-month contract with potential extension
  • Prior research or academic domain experience a plus
