About the role

Code coverage at 85% sounds safe. But coverage measures which lines were executed, not whether the right behavior was tested. You can execute every line of a payment processing function without ever testing what happens when the network times out at exactly the wrong moment. Coverage gaps that matter are behavioral gaps, and finding them requires understanding what the code is supposed to do. This is a 9-month contract to build a test coverage gap analyzer that identifies missing test scenarios based on code semantics and production incident history. The system will analyze function signatures, docstrings, and execution traces to infer expected behaviors, compare those behaviors against existing test cases, and rank the gaps by estimated incident risk. The output integrates into CI pipelines as a PR check that surfaces missing scenarios before code merges. You'll work with our senior QA architect who has deep testing methodology expertise and two ML engineers building the code understanding components. The gap analysis engine is your ownership: natural language understanding of code intent, gap detection logic, and risk ranking.

Responsibilities

  • Build test coverage gap analyzer identifying missing behavioral test scenarios
  • Implement code semantic analysis to infer expected behaviors from function signatures and docstrings
  • Develop gap detection logic comparing inferred behaviors against existing test cases
  • Create risk ranking using production incident history and code change frequency
  • Build CI integration surfacing gap analysis results as PR checks
  • Evaluate gap detection accuracy against known historical test deficiencies

Requirements

  • 3+ years in QA automation, test engineering, or code analysis tools
  • Experience with static analysis, code understanding, or NLP applied to code
  • Strong Python skills and familiarity with testing frameworks
  • Understanding of behavioral testing methodologies
  • Ability to execute against a defined technical spec in a contract engagement
