About the role

We are a mental health charity. We provide talking therapies, crisis support, and peer support programmes to approximately 4,500 people per year across three London boroughs. We take data seriously and we approach it carefully. The people who use our services have shared sensitive information with us in the context of receiving support. Every decision we make about how to use that data is a decision we make as stewards of their trust, not owners of their information. That framing matters and if it doesn't resonate with you, this probably isn't the right organisation. The analytical work we need help with is genuinely important: we want to understand whether our interventions are working, for whom, and under what conditions. We measure outcomes using validated scales — PHQ-9, GAD-7, WEMWBS — at intake and at regular intervals. We have five years of longitudinal outcome data across our main therapy pathway. We also have a referral and waiting list dataset, a volunteer support log, and a crisis call record. We are hiring a part-time data analyst for two days a week to help us understand what the data says. The job requires technical competence, ethical seriousness, and the ability to work in an organisation that is doing difficult work in complex conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Build a longitudinal outcome analysis of our five-year therapy pathway dataset — tracking PHQ-9 and GAD-7 trajectories from intake through discharge and six-month follow-up
  • Develop the outcome reporting framework for our commissioner contracts — accurate, clearly presented, and defensible under scrutiny
  • Analyse referral and waiting list data to identify patterns in who is reaching us, who is waiting longest, and who drops off before being seen
  • Contribute to our data governance framework — helping us make principled decisions about what data we collect, how long we keep it, and what we use it for
  • Produce analysis in plain language that our trustees and clinical staff can read and act on without a data background

Requirements

  • 3+ years of data analysis in a health, social care, or research context — experience with clinical outcome data or validated mental health measurement instruments is a significant advantage
  • Python for longitudinal data analysis, cohort modelling, and reproducible analysis pipelines
  • R for statistical analysis — our clinical evaluation partners use R and the ability to work with their analysis directly would be valuable
  • SQL for working with our case management database and outcome data warehouse
  • Statistics: survival analysis, mixed-effects models for repeated-measures outcome data, and the discipline to communicate uncertainty honestly rather than producing the finding a funder wants to see
  • Tableau for building outcome dashboards that commissioners, trustees, and clinical staff can use
  • Familiarity with GDPR in a healthcare or social care context — you will be working with sensitive personal data and the governance obligations are real

Benefits

  • £36,000 – £44,000 pro-rated to two days per week
  • Fully remote with monthly in-person team meetings in our South London office
  • Flexible hours with genuine respect for the boundary between work time and personal time
  • Pension contribution of 6% employer match
  • Work that is about something that matters — the analysis you produce will inform decisions about real services for real people
