Head of AI Product

Aiko Yamamoto

Full-time · Senior · New_York

About the role

We need a Head of AI Product. Here's what that means at our company, specifically. We have 11 AI features live in production. Five of them are working well. Three are underperforming against their original success metrics. Two were shipped before we had a measurement framework in place, so we're not entirely sure how they're doing. One was the right idea at the wrong time and probably should have been descoped earlier. The person in this role will own all of them — the good, the mediocre, and the ones that need honest reassessment. You'll manage a team of two mid-level product managers. You'll have a direct reporting line to the CPO and a seat at the leadership table. The expectation is that you come in, understand the current state clearly before forming strong opinions, and then form very strong opinions. We're not looking for someone who will manage a roadmap spreadsheet. We're looking for someone who will push back on the engineering team when a feature is being overengineered, push back on sales when they're making promises the model can't keep, and push back on us when the strategy is wrong.

Responsibilities

  • Own the AI product roadmap and communicate it clearly to engineering, sales, and leadership
  • Conduct a structured audit of all live AI features and produce a prioritised improvement plan
  • Manage and develop two mid-level product managers
  • Define and enforce a measurement framework for all AI features before development begins
  • Lead monthly product reviews with the CPO and present quarterly to the board

Requirements

  • 7+ years in product management with 3+ years specifically in AI or ML-driven products
  • Track record of shipping and improving AI features with measurable business outcomes
  • Strong analytical foundation — you run your own SQL queries and interpret A/B test results independently
  • Experience managing and developing product managers
  • Able to have a credible technical conversation with ML engineers about model limitations and feasibility
  • Python for light data analysis — enough to explore a dataset and ask better questions
  • Outstanding written communication — strategy documents, decision memos, leadership presentations

Benefits

  • Leadership ownership over a significant AI product portfolio
  • Full remote with quarterly in-person leadership sessions
  • $160,000 – $195,000 base salary + equity + leadership bonus
  • Conference and leadership development budget: $3,500 annually
  • Strong team — the engineers are good and want a strong product leader
