About the role

We are a German family-owned manufacturing company. We produce precision gearbox components and drivetrain systems for industrial machinery. We employ 2,200 people across three production sites in Baden-Württemberg. We have been in business since 1967. We do not use the word 'disruption.' We are not a technology company. We are a manufacturing company that has decided, after careful deliberation, that we need to take data analytics seriously — not because it is fashionable, but because our largest customers are beginning to require performance data and predictive maintenance capabilities that we cannot currently provide, and because we believe that understanding our production data better will reduce our scrap rate, improve our delivery reliability, and make us more competitive on lead time against Asian manufacturers. We are creating a new Head of Data Analytics position. This person will build our analytics capability from a very early stage — we have the data but we do not have the processes, tools, or people yet. You will report to the CFO and work closely with our production directors. We expect this to be a five-year commitment. We are looking for someone who builds things carefully and makes them last.

Responsibilities

  • Define the analytics strategy and technology stack for the data function — we have opinions but we want your expertise
  • Build the core operational reporting suite: OEE, scrap rate, delivery performance, and quality metrics across three production sites
  • Develop predictive maintenance analysis using our machine telemetry data from CNC equipment across two sites
  • Hire and develop the first two analysts to join the team as the function grows
  • Present analytics findings and investment recommendations to the CFO and management board

Requirements

  • 8+ years of data analytics with at least 3 years in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial operations
  • Python for data analysis, pipeline development, and building the reporting automation that replaces our current manual processes
  • SQL for working with our ERP system, MES data, and quality management database — the data exists but it is not clean
  • Tableau for building production performance dashboards that a plant manager can use on the shop floor without a data background
  • Statistics: SPC (statistical process control), OEE analysis, scrap rate root cause analysis — the analytical methods of manufacturing quality management
  • Power BI as an alternative to Tableau — we have not decided which tool we will standardise on and we want your input on that decision
  • German language proficiency — you will be presenting analysis to plant directors and the CFO and the conversations will happen in German

Benefits

  • €95,000 – €120,000 base salary + performance bonus of 10–15%
  • Based in our Freiburg headquarters with flexibility for one to two days remote per week
  • Company car or equivalent transport allowance
  • 30 days annual leave
  • A long-term role in a stable, profitable company — we have not had a redundancy in fourteen years and we do not plan one
