Junior AI Document Type Classification Analyst

About the role

As a fully async team spread across several time zones, we believe great engineers do their best work when trusted with real ownership from day one, even at the junior level. Every document that hits our processing pipeline first needs to be correctly classified by type before any extraction logic runs. You'll own the classification model that routes invoices, receipts, purchase orders, and contracts to the right downstream pipeline. You will work closely with our document processing team, learning how production ETL pipelines handle messy, real-world scanned documents at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the document type classification model powering our routing pipeline
  • Build evaluation datasets from misrouted document samples flagged by downstream teams
  • Partner with the extraction team to understand routing failure modes
  • Support ETL pipeline monitoring for classification-related failures
  • Document classification edge cases for future model iterations

Requirements

  • Some Python and SQL experience, coursework or personal projects welcome
  • Interest in document processing or applied NLP
  • Comfortable working with messy, inconsistent real-world data
  • Strong attention to detail
