Junior AI Seasonal Demand Spike Predictor

About the role

Black Friday. Valentine's Day. The week before Thanksgiving. Back-to-school. These demand spikes are predictable — but predicting their magnitude precisely enough to drive procurement decisions is harder than it looks, and getting it wrong means either stockouts that cost sales or overstock that erodes margins. Our forecasting platform serves 80 retail clients, and the seasonal spike module is the part most clients ask about first. Right now, we model seasonality with Fourier terms and fixed holiday indicators. That works for events that happen on the same date every year. It breaks for events that shift (Easter), compound (long weekend before a holiday), or interact with promotions and external trends. You'll join the forecasting team as a junior engineer, helping maintain and improve the seasonal spike prediction component. Senior engineers set the modeling direction; you'll implement changes, run backtests, and build the evaluation reports that show clients whether our spike predictions improved their procurement outcomes. This role is great for someone who wants to learn applied time series forecasting in a real production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement improvements to the seasonal spike prediction component
  • Run backtesting analysis against historical demand data for new model variants
  • Build evaluation reports comparing predicted vs. actual spike magnitudes
  • Maintain data pipelines feeding seasonal features into the forecasting stack
  • Investigate spike prediction errors and document root causes
  • Support client-facing analytics team with custom seasonal analysis

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with time series data and trend/seasonality concepts
  • Interest in retail analytics, forecasting, or supply chain
  • Attention to detail in numerical analysis
  • Good written communication for documenting findings
