About the role

We are an international humanitarian organisation. We run food security, shelter, and livelihoods programmes in fourteen countries across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. We have 2,400 staff, the majority of them in the field. We have been operating since 1979 and we take the weight of that history seriously. We are hiring a Junior Data Analyst to join our London-based programme data team — a team of five people whose job is to make our programme data useful. Not just collected, not just stored — actually used to understand whether our programmes are working and for whom they are working best. The data we work with is real and it is sensitive: household surveys, food consumption scores, programme enrolment records, and monitoring visit reports from active humanitarian crises. The person we hire will spend significant time cleaning and validating data from field systems that were not designed for easy analysis, and significant time turning that cleaned data into reports and dashboards that programme managers in the field can act on. If you are early in your data career and you want your first proper role to involve work that matters for people in difficult circumstances, we would genuinely like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and validate data from field monitoring systems, household surveys, and programme enrolment records
  • Build monthly programme performance dashboards in Tableau for use by country programme teams
  • Support the preparation of donor reports with data analysis and visualisation
  • Assist senior analysts in designing data collection tools for new programme evaluations
  • Document data sources, known quality issues, and transformation logic so the team can maintain continuity during staff rotations

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in humanitarian or development work — this matters as much as technical qualifications
  • Python for data cleaning and basic analysis — Pandas and Matplotlib at a working level
  • SQL for querying programme databases and extracting data for reporting
  • Tableau or Power BI for building field-accessible dashboards that work in low-bandwidth environments
  • Foundational statistics: rates, cohort comparisons, and the discipline to communicate uncertainty rather than false precision
  • Strong written English — you will be writing analysis summaries for programme managers who are not data specialists
  • Any exposure to humanitarian data standards (OCHA, ActivityInfo, or similar) is welcome but not required

Benefits

  • $35,000 – $46,000 base salary
  • Hybrid — two days in our Farringdon, London office, three days remote
  • Generous annual leave — 28 days plus bank holidays
  • Pension contribution of 7% employer match
  • Work where the output of your analysis connects directly to programme decisions affecting vulnerable populations
