About the role

We're building a knowledge graph that connects 2 million biomedical entities — genes, proteins, diseases, drugs, and clinical trials — into a queryable, AI-enhanced research platform for pharmaceutical R&D teams. The graph exists. The AI layer doesn't yet. As a freelance knowledge graph engineer, you'll design the bridge between our structured graph data and LLM-powered query interfaces. That means building entity linking pipelines, graph-aware RAG systems, and natural language to graph query translators. The work is technically demanding and domain-specific. We need someone who can work independently, deliver production-quality code, and communicate progress async. Engagements are scoped in 2-month blocks with clear deliverables. If you have experience at the intersection of knowledge graphs and modern NLP, we'd love to see your portfolio.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design entity linking pipelines connecting unstructured text to graph nodes
  • Build graph-aware RAG systems for natural language queries
  • Develop natural language to graph query translation modules
  • Integrate LLM-powered interfaces with existing biomedical knowledge graph
  • Deliver documented, production-quality code in 2-month engagement blocks

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering or NLP with knowledge graph experience
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Experience with graph databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, or similar)
  • Familiarity with LangChain and RAG architectures
  • Biomedical or scientific domain knowledge preferred
