About the role

We run a third-party logistics operation. Three fulfilment centres — one in Ohio, one in Texas, one in Nevada. We handle warehousing, pick-and-pack, and last-mile carrier management for about 45 e-commerce clients, mostly mid-market brands doing between $5M and $80M in annual revenue. We shift approximately 7,500 SKUs and process about 9,000 orders a day at peak. The work is operational. The problems are operational. Our clients care about on-time delivery rates, picking accuracy, carrier cost per unit, and whether their inventory counts in our WMS match what our reports say. Currently those metrics are tracked manually in a combination of spreadsheets and exports from our WMS system that our operations manager reviews on Mondays. It works. It is not good enough to run a growing business on. We are hiring a part-time analytics specialist — two or three days a week — to build the reporting infrastructure we should have had two years ago, and then maintain it and support our operations team in using it to make better decisions. This is not a machine learning role. It is not a role that requires a PhD. It is a role for someone who is genuinely good at wrangling operational data and turning it into useful information.

Responsibilities

  • Build the core operational reporting suite: carrier performance, picking accuracy, inventory reconciliation, and order cycle time
  • Automate the weekly operations report that currently takes our operations manager three hours to produce manually
  • Analyse carrier cost and performance data to support annual carrier negotiation cycles
  • Build a basic demand forecasting signal from order history to support seasonal staffing and inventory positioning discussions with clients
  • Document every data source, transformation, and metric definition — operational data systems change and the documentation needs to survive those changes

Requirements

  • 3+ years of analytics or data analysis in an operations, logistics, or supply chain environment
  • SQL for extracting and transforming data from our WMS and carrier APIs — this will be 60% of the technical work
  • Python for data pipeline automation and report generation
  • Tableau for building carrier performance, inventory accuracy, and order fulfilment dashboards that our operations team will use daily
  • Statistics at a practical level: identifying genuine trends versus noise, communicating uncertainty, and not drawing conclusions that the data does not support
  • Scikit-learn or equivalent for basic forecasting — we would like to start with a simple demand signal before considering anything more complex

Benefits

  • $44,000 – $54,000 pro-rated to 2–3 days per week
  • Fully remote — we have no office, only warehouses, and warehouses are not where analytics work happens
  • Flexible schedule within standard US business hours
  • Small team where your work will have immediate visible impact on real operational decisions
  • Growth path to a full-time role if the company\'s growth trajectory continues as expected
