Junior AI Medication Adherence Prediction Developer

Paisley Suzuki

Full-time · Job · Chicago

About the role

Medication non-adherence costs the US healthcare system $300B annually in preventable hospitalizations and disease progression. Patients who don't take their prescribed medications as directed — whether from forgetfulness, side effect burden, cost barriers, or health literacy gaps — have dramatically worse outcomes for chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, and mental health. Identifying patients at high risk of non-adherence before they stop filling prescriptions lets care teams intervene with targeted support. We serve 12 health systems with clinical AI analytics. Medication adherence prediction is a new model we're building to support pharmacy benefit management and care coordination teams. The predictive signals are in the EHR and pharmacy data: prior fill gap patterns, disease complexity, social determinants of health, number of concurrent medications, and prior care team engagement patterns all correlate with adherence outcomes. As a junior developer, you'll build the data pipelines that assemble the training dataset for adherence prediction models. Senior data scientists design the models; your work is extracting and joining the feature data from pharmacy fill records, EHR demographics, and care engagement logs that makes the model training possible.

Responsibilities

  • Build pharmacy fill record ingestion pipeline extracting medication fill history and fill gap patterns
  • Implement EHR data extraction joining patient demographics, diagnosis codes, and care team engagement history
  • Develop medication complexity feature computation: number of concurrent medications, polypharmacy indicators
  • Create social determinants of health feature integration from structured SDH screening data
  • Build training dataset assembly joining all feature sources to adherence outcome labels
  • Maintain data pipeline as new EHR data sources and feature engineering requirements are added

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Basic familiarity with healthcare data, EHR systems, or clinical informatics preferred
  • Interest in healthcare analytics, population health, or clinical data science
  • Attention to data join accuracy and healthcare data privacy requirements
  • Good communication for collaborating with senior data scientists on feature engineering specifications

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Health and dental insurance
  • $1,500 annual learning budget
  • Mentorship from senior clinical data scientists
  • Work with meaningful patient outcome impact
