Junior Data Reliability Engineer

About the role

Data pipelines break at 3 AM and nobody finds out until a stakeholder notices wrong numbers in a dashboard the next morning. Data reliability engineering exists to catch those breaks before the stakeholder does — through monitoring, alerting, automated tests, and the kind of systematic pipeline hygiene that makes silent failures impossible. We've built a data reliability platform used by 75 enterprise data teams. As a junior engineer, you'll build and maintain the monitoring integrations that connect our platform to clients' Airflow, dbt, and warehouse environments. You'll write the checks that catch late data, missing rows, schema drift, and referential integrity violations — the bread-and-butter failures that account for 80% of real-world data incidents. The team will teach you the domain. Within a year you'll have more hands-on data reliability experience than most engineers get in three.

Responsibilities

  • Build monitoring integrations for Airflow, dbt, and cloud data warehouse environments
  • Write automated data quality checks for common failure patterns
  • Maintain alerting pipelines that notify the right team when checks fail
  • Help onboard new clients by mapping their pipeline architecture to our platform
  • Fix integration bugs and maintain documentation as client environments change
  • Participate in on-call rotation during business hours

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python and SQL development experience
  • Familiarity with data pipeline concepts: DAGs, ETL, schema evolution
  • Basic experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
  • Systematic approach to debugging data quality issues
  • Interest in data infrastructure and reliability engineering
